16- Mary Bartelme Park and Shanghai Carpet

 Mary Barltelme Park

The Park is an open space with zones with a playful nature. It's most well known for its stainless steel gates which emit vaporised water for people to enjoy on hot days, it stands out as a monumental point of the area with the visual of the rectangles warping a person's perspective as they look at it. The format of the design is structured and linear with the open areas acting on the informal routes for people to enjoy, it also contrasts with the parallel grid streets it surrounds breaking up the space with the contrast.
I really appreciate the park caters to the needs of all of its users in an accessible way; being flat and accessible for wheelchair and pram users, having a dog area with water access, for children having a playground. The pops of colour for the playground are vibrant and inviting for children to want to use. The site is functional and enjoyable for everyone.

Shanghai Carpet

The water mixing with the patchwork of textures makes for a visually enticing design, what colour and pattern is the next to be laid upon the carpet? This is a place for people to stop to enjoy or to be looked over as you walk through it, it's a visually stimulating place, the movement of the water over textures. The walkway through the middle means you have no choice but to look at the water, it's an isolating kind of walk with the paving close to the surface level feeling like you're walking over it. Though I don't like the way the materials are eclectically placed over the space, it is effective for its intriguing use and the concept of the clash of digital and ancient art.
