18- Claude Cormier

I came across this landscape architect when we looked at the blue sticks project. It really excited me the fun of design just through some sticks, I looked into the work of Claude Cormier and his studio more and I really enjoyed the playfulness and optimism of design his studio represents. I think we could do with more of that in the world. The designs are memorable with colour or pattern, but without dictating space, his designs are able to breathe with the use of vegetation and functionality of a space. The duality of mixing formal patterns and organic lines together is done seamlessly within their designs. They look to seasonal interest wherever they can, particularly with the use of cherry blossoms and maple trees, then using lighting ad sculptures to carry the sense of space when the leaves aren't there.

I can appreciate why his designs aren't for everyone, they're not meant to be edgy or dark, and they may not reflect the context of some spaces. But where the designs are, it's like they were always there

This work just seems fun and playful and interactive. And importantly it's memorable.
