1- Summary of Semester 1
Had some fantastic content we looked at in semester 1, with a lot of student-led learning and exploring our design process further in addition to creating content for portfolios.
Sustainable Technology- We submitted a proposal to a local church group for a garden proposal, not successful but we worked as a group and explored ideas and development together. We surveyed Park Campus and made habitat surveys, planting plans, sections of the changes in level and an environmental poster
Design Project- We surveyed, analysed and redesigned Alney Island in Gloucester, with the brief outlining requirements including- a new bridge, facilities for the site, making the site a landmark, including sculptures and being considerate about the flooding and sustainability of the site. Setting a precedence for designing in a floodplain. I explored my design with Winds of Change as my concept, how we can change and how we should be open to it. Applying the concept into the design mimicking the movement of wind, using wind turbines to power the site, introducing more seasonal interest and biodiverse planting, more facilities for entertainment and sculptures that act as landmarks for the site
Dissertation- My topic explored the relationship between human health and the environment in a British urban context. I used secondary research by looking at books, blogs, articles and pre-existing research. To summarise the dissertation, the UK is not doing enough to help the health of urban residents through the use of landscape and changing the landscape of a city will improve the physical health.
-
Semester 2 we will be exploring themes in further detail.
Sustainable Technology- Creating more survey plans
Design Project- Further developing a section of our Alney Island design, honing in our concept
Philosophy and Ethics- Exploring the role of a landscape architecture more, what kind of a designer we are and what kind of practice we may wish to work for.
